Visit to the Oriental Museum

This  week, we visited the Oriental Museum in Durham, to consolidate our learning surrounding the ancient city of Baghdad and our RE work about Islam.  We began our visit by studying various rare artefacts from C.900.  We worked with a partner to search for answers to questions about the period and then we chose one artefact each to study in more depth.

To complement our DT work about Islamic patterns, we worked collaboratively to design a pattern on a ceramic tile.  We were challenged to make sure the patterns on our tiles fitted together!  We later added colour and they are now ready to be baked in the oven at home.

After lunch, we enjoyed working in a group to produce algorithms using a movable toy.   Finally, we performed some of the stories from 1001 Arabian Nights and had great fun using props and costumes to tell the stories.
