Reception Meet the Hens

Reception had the pleasure of meeting our school hens up close this morning. Miss Rowe brought four of the hens into class, Nora, our largest, Silkie, our oldest, Winter, our smallest and the newly named Feather. All the children had the opportunity to stroke their soft feathers and some children held them, the hens looked very content and nestled down into the children’s warm laps. The children were very calm and asked lots of questions. Once the hens had returned outside Miss Rowe read them a true story about a chicken that sailed around the world!

The Hen Who Sailed Around the World: A True Story

The Long-Term Principle: Forest School is a long-term process of frequent and regular sessions in a woodland or natural environment, rather than a one-off visit. Planning, adaptation, observations and reviewing are integral elements of Forest School.
