In DT, Year Two have designed and made a toy fire engine with moving wheels and a winding mechanism.
To begin, they researched existing products and decided which features they liked. The boys and girls agreed that the fire engines with flashing lights, noises and long ladders were the most fun.
Next, the children designed what their fire engine would look like. They also labelled the chassis, wheels and axle which would allow their fire engine to move.
Then, it was time to start building! The children built their chassis, before attaching the axles and wheels to the frame. They then decorated a box using coloured paper and string which was attached to the chassis. Finally, the boys and girls created a moving ladder using a winding mechanism.
