Improving our School Environment

Over the summer, a lot of work has been undertaken as part of our continual building development.  From the first day of the holiday until the very last, a range of projects were implemented with a focus on making the Harlow Green environment the best that it can be for our community.  We are proud of having a place where children can access such high-quality and well-resources spaces because it is what each and everyone one of them deserves.

Some of the main developments are detailed below.

Toilet Refurbishment

Although the toilets are not that old, there has been the continuation of the refurbishment programme to ensure modern and fresh facilities.  Reception and Year 2 have had their toilets refurbished along with some adult toilets.

Early Years Outdoor Area

As most parents will know, the outdoor area for Nursery and Reception had the problem of being on a slope which then became very muddy.  After time spent redesigning, a full six-week building programme had led to a completely new area on two levels.  The area is now fully useable all year round and has already been enjoyed by all our Reception and Nursery children.

The Nest (a place to provide the nurture and support for children before they are ready to move on)

As part of our aim to be a highly inclusive school, a significant project was undertaken to redevelop the large ‘Street’ area on the ground floor.  The aim was to develop a space in which children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will access in different ways, but particularly children who have additional needs.  The space has allowed quiet time for individuals but also access for larger groups allowing children to interact positively with each other, regardless of additional needs.

This new area has been developed in consultation with a range of stakeholders including council specialist, parents/carers and staff, all of whom have a shared vision of inclusivity.
