Marvellous Maths!

In year 4, the children have been learning about place value. They have explored the value of digits in numbers in the thousands and ten thousands, and they have partitioned them using the waterfall method. Here, they have learnt the importance of a 'place holder 0'. They have also studied these numbers on number lines with different intervals, and calculated 1000 more and less than any 4 or 5-digit number. Using this understanding, they have been able to compare 4-digit numbers using symbols and the vocabulary 'greater than' and 'less than'. As part of the place value topic, they also learn about Roman Numerals, and have enjoyed converting between them and modern day digits.
