Mary Anning
For the last two weeks Year One have been learning about a very famous lady, Mary Anning, the first person to discover dinosaur bones in England. We have been fascinated by her story and how she excavated dinosaur bones and ammonites.
We wanted to understand how it felt to be a palaeontologist. So, we started our history learning by carefully excavating chocolate chips out of a cookie. The biscuit was the crumbling cliffs and the chocolate chips were the fossils. The pupils had a lot of fun but also realised that fossils are very fragile and you have to dig carefully. They said the best bit was eating the cookie at the end!
Later we drew a picture of Mary Anning and we also sketched a picture of her discovery, an Ichthyosaurus. Because we had to look carefully at all of the details our work was amazing! Well done Year One!
