Reader's Theatre

This week, Year 6 have been enjoying working in pairs and threes in Reader’s Theatre sessions.

Reader’s Theatre is designed to improve fluency when reading and develop confidence performing in front of the class. The children listen to the teacher model a text and then focus on a particular aspect. Year 6 have been focusing on whispering for characters and using pauses and silence to create tension. We used the section from our class novel ‘Friend or Foe’ where the aeroplane crashed into the moors.

Over the week, they have annotated their texts and then rehearsed, ready for their final performances. It was lovely to see all of the laughter and fun as the children worked together, with some excellent, tense and dramatic story retelling.
