What the ladybird heard

In Reception this week, we have continued to explore life on the farm by reading  ‘What the ladybird heard’ by Julia Donaldson. It has been a busy week for our young learners.

The story tells the tale of a small ladybird who helps protect the fine prized cow from the sneaky criminals. The criminals, with the use of a map, try to steal the cow but are tricked by the clever farm animals. In the classroom, we designed our own maps of the farm, to replicate the ones used in the story.  The children were fantastic at using positional language when drawing their maps and were able to retell the story through the use of their drawings. The children continued to get creative in the painting area where they explored mixing different colours to paint farm animals.

It has been a wonderful week filled with learning and creativity. We are enjoying our topic ‘Explorers Outdoors’ and look forward to what next week brings.
