Continuing our investigations around the shaduf mechanism, the children were taught how to create a tripod lashing. This follows their reflection on the previous session where the main problem was creating a secure and stable base for the shaduf.
We discussed why the tripod is such a useful structure and practiced in class before attempting it outside. This exercise requires positive teamwork and perseverance and the children achieved some great results.
- Once the main structure was created a cross-beam could be added creating the rotating pivot.
- Here you can see a weight and container has now been added.
- A completed working mechanism.
- With weight and container added.
