Year 5 had an amazing time with a special visit from Dr Jo this week! She is an Anglo Saxon specialist who came in to launch our History topic.
We learned all about day to day life for a typical Anglo Saxon, although we didn’t fancy the idea of working on a farm at 9 and 10 years old!
We also took part in a burial! We discovered that the Anglo Saxons were often very religious, and thought that burying someone wihh their precious belongings meant they would have them with them in the afterlife.
After that, we played loads of fabulous games from the Anglo Saxon era: we wrote our names using a feather (using the Anglo Saxon alphabet of course!), we braided wool, we wove twigs and we even played Nine Men’s Morris!
We really enjoyed meeting out visitor, and we’d like to say a special thank you to Dr Jo for coming in to teach us!
