Though not everyone has enjoyed the wet weather of late, the plants have certainly benefited. Year 1 children took advantage of this and were set off to collect leaves, grasses and interesting objects. Once they’d gathered their items they then put them together to create their own woodland scene. Pine cones for hedgehogs, leaves for trees. we even had a snake made from a dried catkin. This is an interesting exercise where children can sort and classify items as they like. Some children preferred to interpret their objects in a more literal sense whilst others are more adventurous in their imaginative expression. Observing how the children prefer to work naturally, helps to then inform future planning.
