The residents and children at Angel Court surprised themselves with how well their pinch and slab pots have started to come together. Working in pairs, one old, one young, they first manipulated to clay into small bowl shapes. They were then fitted inside each other creating a gap between the two. These were sealed top and bottom creating a hollowed bowl shape which would become the body of the hen or other creature. Details were then added.
Clay is proving to be a very popular medium to work with, even for arthritic hands. This ensures that everyone feels they can contribute. Of course there is the added excitement, when using ceramics, that we won’t know until they come out of the kiln what the end product will look like.
Glazing will take place over the next few weeks.
