Awareness and protection of our personal information has never been as important. Helping our children to understand how situations can quickly spiral out of control and showing them how to protect themselves is vital to keep them safe now and in the future.
The classes were split into 4 teams and nominated a captain. They were given a scenario and had to plan and deliver a skit to perform to the class. Whilst planning they were to think about the difference between confidential information and secrets, how do we know the difference and who is responsible.
The audience then gave feedback.
Article 16 – We all have the right to privacy.
- On the phone a girl shares something personal with her best friend.
- What she doesn’t know is that her friend is hanging out with some other children.
- Before long the news spreads.
- Sometimes it may not even be someones intention to spread gossip, but as each person tells just one other so information is shared and no one can control it.
- Giving out you password to a friend can lead to all sorts of problems.
- Cameramen film the action and direct the team.
- Everybody has an opinion and quickly the password becomes public knowledge.
- Settings can be changed, comments posted in your name, this was only on a gaming site but imagine if it had been a bank password.
- A child is getting bullied.
- Word spreads by phone.
- Whispered comments can really make someone feel vulnerable.
- This situation was resolved by one of the ‘bullies’ realising the harm being caused and speaking with the victims grandfather. They then got in touch with the parents of the bullies to stop it.
- A teacher speaks to her class about their test results.
- She also singles out one child who gets the lowest score.
- She speaks to the head teacher.
- The dialogue here between the head teacher and the pupil included a lot of information about sometimes its important to share but sometimes it is not.
- This group really understood the responsibilities of school staff and did a good job of managing the situation.
