We announce with great sadness Vi Symons died suddenly on Sunday 17th May. Vi had a 38 year teaching career, 12 of which were as Head Teacher of Harlow Green Infant School. A dedicated professional who met anyone stepping through the school doors with enthusiasm and friendliness, Vi had a reputation for her assemblies and celebration speeches, which were known to get the most hardened of grown men reduced to tears. She delivered her messages with true heartfelt warmth and commitment – the same warmth and commitment she put into giving each and every child at Harlow Green a solid foundation in their early education.
Vi’s investment in children’s well-being stretched beyond Harlow Green Infant School – she put a lot of time, research and her experience into helping form our current Harlow Green Community Primary School, as well as The Children’s Centre. Portobello School were luck to have Vi as a member of their governing body, and only last month, Vi’s beautiful art of story telling was put to splendid use on South Street Community Primary School’s Facebook page to help during the coronavirus pandemic.
Former colleagues and pupils of Vi have been inspired to further develop their careers and, in some instances become teachers themselves. All of the many messages of love and sympathy which have been posted online are an underlying mark of respect for a truly lovely lady.
Condolences go to all of her family. Rest in Peace Vi
