This week, the Year One children have enjoyed finding out about Diwali and how it is celebrated by the Hindu community. Our learning journey started by a virtual trip to the Oriental Museum. Ross and his team taught the children all about the gods and deities. We used hand actions to retell the story of Rama and Sita and the children were shown some Hindu artefacts such as Diya Lamps and a Puja tray. Afterwards, the children learnt all about different customs to celebrate Diwali such as cleaning the house, giving gifts, making Rangoli patterns and watching fireworks. Everyone has enjoyed playing in our Diwali role play area and some children have even had a go at making a Rangoli pattern. Happy Diwali everyone!
