We now know it is definitely the Christmas season as today was our first official event – Christmas Dinner.
The children arrived at school this morning with smiles on their faces and wearing their festive attire, which was lovely to see; you could feel the anticipation and excitement in the air.
To make the afternoon feel as magical as possible, a team effort had been undertaken, from the ordering of items by the office staff a few weeks ago to the decorating and dressing of the room by the lunchtime supervisors and teaching assistants on the day; everyone wanted to do their bit so that children could enjoy this special lunch with their classmates.
Of course, the most important job that had to be done was preparing and cooking the meal which the kitchen staff once more excelled with! A full traditional Christmas dinner was on offer with turkey, chipolatas, roast and mashed potatoes, a variety of vegetables (including the obligatory sprouts) and, for those who wanted (and why wouldn’t they?) lashings of warm gravy! To finish the meal, there were a range of biscuits and cakes to choose from as a sweet treat is always welcomed.
Watching the children looking so happy and enjoying this time together reminds us all of why school is such an important place for the children to be, especially at this time.
Although it was disappointing not to have some of the children with us as their classes are isolating, we have arranged for Reception and Mr Hollingworth’s class to have their Christmas lunch on Wednesday 16th December, where we will do the same again. The only question is whether Mr Malik has a second helping on this day!
