This week Year One were introduced to their new English text. It’s a non-fiction book called ‘Let’s Build a House’. We launched this new book by firstly going outside, taking full advantage of the sunny weather, and they used natural materials to build a house. The children had to include walls, a roof, windows and a door. Some children even adorned their house with a beautiful garden or a practical garage. Later in the week, the children compared and sorted fiction and non-fiction books. We learnt that non-fiction books are full of information and facts. We also looked at the different features of a non-fiction book, such as the index, the blurb, headings and photographs. Everyone labelled a non-fiction book with these features.
