This week Year One have been introduced to poetry. The children began the week by listening to, and joining in with the poem “Walking Round the Zoo”. We learnt the poem off by heart and added actions. After this, we looked at rhyming words and thought of our own. Towards the end of the week, we made up our own versions of “Walking Round the Zoo” and performed them to our class mates – there were some excellent ideas! To finish off our poetry topic, everyone wrote their very own version of the poem and performed it to their partner. Some children changed the setting to a beach, others changed it to a park, whilst others changed it to a jungle. We had some very interesting animals too! We had lots of fun.
