Our First Week at Nursery
We have had a lovely time altogether in Nursery this week for the first time. We are extremely proud of all of the children settling into our routine of daily life. The children have all been fantastic at leaving their parents/carers and settling straight in to play with their friends and teachers. We have focused on learning our daily routine, and learning our routine songs to support transitions. As well as having a big focus on how to use areas, looking after our toys, putting objects in the correct places and tidying up. We have also played lots of name and ring games to learn our friend’s names! Playing outside in the sunshine has been our favourite part of the week, using all of our lovely new resources.
Our story of the week has been ‘The Colour Monster’ and ‘The Colour Monster Goes to School’. We have looked at what emotions look like, what our bodies do when we feel that way, and sang the song ‘if you’re happy and you know it …..’. We have discussed how we felt coming into Nursery and how we feel now. Each emotion is a different colour in the story, which led us onto practicing our colours and learning to match and sort colours in the environment when tidying – for example, our colour pencil pots and collage materials are in colours for the children to sort.
