Chinese New year
This week the children have been learning about the celebration of ‘Chinese New Year’. We have taken a dive into their culture and explored how it is different to us. We have tried Chinese dancing, looked at their outfits and what they do to celebrate New Year – dragon dances, making lanterns and giving money in red envelopes. We created our own dragon and made a dragon dance! The children have also enjoyed listening to Chinese music and dancing with scarves. Our favourite part of the week has been the food tasting, the children have tried: noodles, spring rolls, prawn crackers, soy sauce and sweet chilli! In our role play areas, we have been acting out a Chinese restaurant, making food in the home corner and in the playdough area. With Chinese New Year being ‘The Year of the Tiger’, we have been looking at tigers and their stripes too.
