Islam

In RE this week, year 5 have been learning about the beliefs of Muslims and the important figures they worship and respect within their religion of Islam. The children learnt that Muslims believe in only one God, who they call Allah, and that he is the only God. As he has many different characteristics, Allah has been given 99 names to reflect these. The children learnt 10 of the most famous names by matching the names written in Arabic to the English translations. They then had to explain what they thought the names told them about Allah. The second most important figure in Islam is the Prophet Muhammad. He was the last of 5 prophets to receive the words of Allah which were written down to create the holy book The Qur’an. Muslims follow the teachings of Muhammad and believe that these show them the correct way to live. Out of respect to Muhammad, he is not allowed to be depicted by images of any kind, so the children created a simple timeline of key events in his life without using any images.
