As part of our end of term activities, all children from Year 1 to Year 6 take part in a class quiz focussed around their foundation subjects (History, Art, Geography, Science, PE etc) whether it is individually on the iPads or as a class, using the interactive quiz tool – Mentimeter. The teachers create the quizzes throughout the term, focussing on the knowledge learned during different lessons and subjects. Most answers require limited text input, multiple choice or simple word recall.
It is a great, relaxed way to help teachers assess learning that term, have fun within our lessons and during the term, the children are reminded that the knowledge they are learning that day might just be in the end of term quiz! This is the second time we have done the quiz and they are already becoming a highlight of the end of term activities – with some very competitive children across school.
The children really get into it and it helps us ensure that ‘sticky knowledge’ sticks and that learning becomes embedded to support the children as they move through school. At the end of the year, they’ll get the chance to have a quiz on everything they have done using all questions from all 3 quizzes, plus some from the previous year group too! The great thing about Mentimeter is the simplicity and how the children’s answers (as a randomly allocated avatar) appear live on screen as they take part.
Here are some pictures taken today from Year 4.
