Joyful Jubilee!

Year Two have thoroughly enjoyed celebrating The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. They have learned all about her life, including her Coronation and family. The children worked together to write a fantastic postcard as if they had attended the Coronation ceremony. They included information about the Crown Jewels and the oath The Queen had to agree to.

Next, the children learned about key events in Queen Elizabeth II’s life, from her birth to the many jubilees she has celebrated. They had to work together in a group to order photos to form a timeline of her life.

Despite the drizzle, the children enjoyed a wonderful street party out on the school yard. They were entertained by stilt walkers and singers, who they joined in singing the National Anthem. After eating their delicious lunch and ice-cream, the children took part in games, including Hook-a-Duck and Roll a Penny.

After lunch, Year Two created a piece of artwork in the style of Oluwaseyi Alade. They used lots of mark making techniques to add detail to their outline of The Queen’s head.

As part of the jubilee celebrations, the children created some fantastic bunting. They had to use a running stich to join the fabric together and then added their design using fabric pens.
