After the break, caused by covid 19 restrictions, we have been delighted to return to visiting our friends at Angel Court. This is a long term community project which we run with the support and guidance of Equal Arts and Henpower. This alliance enables us to deliver high quality, creative sessions, specifically designed to meet the varied needs of both the residents and the children. Watching the relationships blossom over the years confirms how powerful these sessions can be, improving the well-being of all those involved.
Since Easter we have been working hard to design and deliver a fantastic sensory garden to celebrate the Jubilee, but also give a hub to our community. On Friday we asked the school choir to come with us for the grand opening. Goodness the choir were amazing. Hearing their voices singing out in the sunshine, surrounded by friends and family and of course the beautiful garden, was a true moment of joy. After a quick practice inside, everyone headed out into the garden to immerse in the full experience. We were so pleased that many families and members of our community also came to share in the moment. Everyone was amazed to feel, smell and even eat the incredible range of plants, to dabble toes in the pond and to discover new ways of using the space. The residents were so proud to share their community garden with everyone. Kath said “This is why we do it, look at all the smiles!” From the babies to the oldest residents, fun was had by all.
Despite only restarting their practice recently, the choir were incredible, bringing an vibrancy that matched the surrounding blooms. Everyone sang along and Maisie and Barbara even had a dance with Miss Rowe! They said they miss dancing so much and Maisie put in some song requests for our next choir visit “I’m a bit wild ” she said ” I like a bit of bopping so can we have more rock and Roll next time?” Of course we can! This project is a long term commitment, it touches the lives of so many and to come together and celebrate like this after such a difficult period in all our lives is really what community spirit is all about.
