It has been a busy first few weeks back in school and it has been lovely to see the enthusiasm with which children have been engaged in reading. Over 100 new books were added to the Accelerated Reader programme and these have already been enjoyed and used by many children. More books will be added in the next few weeks – with children having requested more graphic novels in the higher reading bands, which are currently being searched for.
It is important that children use the Reading Plus programme at home in addition to school. Research results show that students who engage in more Reading Plus instruction develop more reading confidence and increase their interest in reading. By doing this, children becoming better able to access so many curriculum areas.
This week, there have been lots of classes achieving well with their comprehension scores but there can only be two winners:
Reading Plus: Year 6A with a score of 86.8%
Accelerated Reader: Year 5A with a score of 83.4%
