Over the last two weeks, the children in Year 6 have been studying the history part of our topic learning about World War Two. To begin with, the children considered the causes of the war and were surprised to learn that there were several different causes not just Hitler and Germany. Even more surprising, was the role the British had in causing war by failing to act sooner.
After this, the children learnt about how World War Two affected society, comparing the changes in men’s and women’s lives. The children learnt about conscription for the men and the impact this also had on women. Propaganda has also been studied and how it was used to influence people on the Home Front. Following this, the children produced their own propaganda posters with excellent results. For their final piece of work in this unit, the children wrote speeches from the point of view of Winston Churchill. These pieces of writing were fantastic and reflected the children’s hard work.
