Fighting on the Home Front!

This week, Year 6 were introduced to their new text in English – the Horrible Histories Second World War Book. This is an interesting, informal non-fiction book that contains many genres of writing and the children have explored how these different genres are used across the chapters. They have then really focussed on the chapters about the Home Front. Over the week, they have considered why offices were portrayed as a ‘dad’s army’ and enjoyed looking at some of the absurd mistakes made during the war – ranking these on a podium. They also enjoyed creating their own Wordles of the effective language used by the author in descriptions.
