Planting

This week in Nursery the children have focused on planting. They started this week by discussing whether or not they have ever grown a plant before and if so, what they did to look after the plant. The children then decorated a yoghurt pot to place their cotton wool and cress seeds inside and learned what cress needs to grow. The children have loved watering their cress and watching them start to grow this week! In the outside area, the children have also planted sunflower seeds and some vegetables such as tomatoes, turnip, and carrots. Later this week, the children also classified a range of food into fruit and vegetables and talked about which pieces of fruit and vegetables they like and why. Inside the classroom, the children have enjoyed playing in our new garden centre and lots of children have cleaned the vegetables to make vegetable soup in the water tray. In the playdough area, lots of children have pressed some brown playdough into a small plant pot and placed a pretend flower into the dough to create a flower display. In the small world area, lots of children have explored our pretend fairy garden and in the finger gym area, the children have strengthened their fine motor skills by cutting up and picking out the seeds in different fruits. During PE, the children were split into two groups and raced each other to have the most bean bags (pretend seeds) in their safe space (pretend garden). They were challenged further to use a range of different movements to transport the bean bags back to their safe space.
