In English, Year Two have been reading The Snail and the Whale written by Julia Donaldson.
For their book launch, the children went on a hunt around the school grounds and followed clues which led them closer to their new book. Each clue was written as a rhyme and revealed the location of the next one. Along the way, the children collected a range of objects including a globe, a snail and a whale. Eventually, the boys and girls found their new class text next to the pond.
Over the last few weeks, the children have thought carefully about how the snail feels throughout the story. They have created an emotion graph, completed thought bubbles and used some fantastic adjectives to describe the character’s personality and appearance. They have even acted out part of the story, demonstrating how other characters may have reacted to the snail’s actions.
This week, the children have written a postcard from the snail to her friends in the flock. The children worked hard to include lots of tricky grammar but, as always, produced some fantastic pieces of work.
As well as working very hard in English, Year Two have also visited The Sage this week. They took part in the Mini Sing alongside other primary schools in the region. The children sang their hearts out and gave a performance to be proud of. Well done Year Two!
