Last week, the children in Year 5 were introduced to their new English class read, ‘Beowulf’. During our book launch, the children went outside to investigate clues that had been left around to try and work out what our new book could be.
The children found some old Viking letters buried in sand, various Viking books, pictures of a sword, monastery, Viking ship and Viking building, fake fur and a picture of the original Beowulf poem.
Most of the children identified the book would be something about Vikings and worked hard to try and put all the clues together.
Since then, we have begun to read Beowulf and the children have been intrigued by the evil monster, Grendel.
