As part of Harlow Green’s commitment to fostering a love of books and reading for pleasure, classes are ‘buddied’ up and, once a half-term, the older children get a change to read with younger children in school.
It is an event that all children look forward to – allowing the KS2 children to be the ‘teacher’ and to share their love and enjoyment of reading with younger children. As teachers, we enjoy watching the interactions between the children and the way that questions are modelled. By doing this regularly, with the same class, it allows a trusting relationship to be developed between the children that helps to promote the sense of community that we strive for.
