This week there has been a buzz of excitement in school as the author and actor ‘Chris Connaughton’ has visited all of the children. It is not often that a visitor can work from Nursery all the way to Year 6 and leave all of the children mesmerised – but Chris has managed to do this with his stories, performances and anecdotes.
Over the week, Chris has introduced the children to elements of their new topics for the Summer Term through his stories. Year 1 have heard tales about holidays; Year 2 stories about Exploration and Discovering the World; Year 3 have explored ideas about castles; and Year 4 were introduced to some Greek Myths. In Year 5 and 6, the focus was on Shakespeare and the children were treated to a one man performance of Macbeth in all of its gory glory.
Throughout the week, it has been lovely to hear the children (and the staff) talking about how exciting their visitor was and to see the eagerness with which some purchased signed copies of his books to read. These experiences allow the children to see the possiblities that are open to them in the future; Chris told them that his interest in acting all stemmed from doing drama at secondary school.
