This week, Year 5 have began to look at Islamic art during their art lessons.
We have looked at examples of Islamic art to identify the three main components: floral motifs, geometric patterns and calligraphy. Then, the children were given different examples of Islamic art to choose from and were asked to write a short description of what each artwork consisted of. Lots of children identified the use of symmetry in the designs and the use of different sized lines to create unique shapes.
Following on from this, the children were given an example of geometric Islamic art to colour in using only three colours. This is because the children will soon identify that artists were limited in their use of colour due to ink being extremely difficult to find during the Ancient Islamic civilisation.
