Year 6’s final topic in school is called ‘Leaving a Legacy.’ As part of this topic, they study the Romans and the impact that they had on life in Britain and particularly in the local area.
During the past two weeks, the children have looked at the failed attempts to invade in 55 and 54BC before the successful invasion in AD43. They have then researched the story of Boudicca and her rebellion. It was interesting to consider how life may have been different if it had been a success and Roman rule had not become as established.
The children are now looking forward to a visit to Vindolanda to have the opportunity to see some primary evidence and to find out a little bit more about life in Roman times in the North East.
