Plot to Pot: A Creative Writing Project.

At Angel Court we have been lucky enough to be working with The Equal Arts Council and Elizabeth Baker, a writer and story teller from the North East. This is linked to our community project Plot to Pot, inspired by the Community Garden we have developed with the residents. We began by learning about traditional songs linked to food, can you guess which song is linked to which image? Do you have a little fishy on a little dishy? The residents took great delight in singing to the children and teaching them the words, then the children tried some song-making of their own.

They then had the opportunity to collage some images. Over the next few weeks the children and residents came up with ideas to try and describe themselves, friends and loved ones using food. The food could be used to reference either their personalities or the feelings they get when they think about themselves or other people. These were then built into poems and written or printed.

Whilst all this creativity was going on Elizabeth would regale us all with fantastical stories and traditional tales, including The Fat Cat which you can see being acted out with a lovely puppet.
