How to find a dinosaur topic launch!

This afternoon, Year One were so lucky to have visitors from Animal Encounters.

Firstly, they introduced the topic of dinosaurs and explained how they lived thousands of years ago but now they are extinct. The children listened carefully to the possible explanation, including a meteor or a volcanic eruption, about how the dinosaurs died out. Next, our visitors explained how animals today are related to dinosaurs.  Our visitors brought round an enormous dinosaur egg. Every child listened to any noises in the egg. They decided it contained a baby dinosaur. They also had a chance to meet two baby dinosaurs, one of which was a herbivore and the other a carnivore. The children had the opportunity to handle and stroke a variety of reptiles, including Cherry the tortoise, Rosie the boa, Banana the python, Spike the gecko, and Yuri the lizard. The children were really brave, especially when they volunteered to stroke Banana the python. We all had a lot of fun!
