Eyes on the Ball!

In PE, Year Two have been practicing their throwing and catching skills. They had to make sure they kept their eyes on the bean bag and always had their hands ready to catch.

To begin, the children practiced throwing the bean bag up and catching it with two hands. At first, some of the children were throwing the bean bag too high or behind them. They soon realised that throwing the bean bag at a sensible height and straight up in front of them allowed them to catch with more accuracy. As an extra challenge, the children threw their bean bag and clapped, before catching it.

Next, the children practiced their throwing and catching skills with a partner. They used an underarm throw to pass the bean bag from one person to the other. If they made several successful passes, they increased the distance between them to really put their skills to the test.

Finally, the boys and girls had to throw their bean bag towards a target. Using an underarm throw, the children threw their bean bag into a hoop. This time, they looked at the target to ensure a more accurate throw. Once the children were confident, they competed in teams to test both their accuracy and speed.
