And the North Wind Blew at Angel Court

The children enjoyed an afternoon with the residents of Angel Court and a creative writer from The Equal Arts Council. These sessions tie into the everyone’s love of nature. Last week we began with a story about how the trees lose their leaves, this week the sessions continued with a tale about Greta and her chase of the North Wind. We then worked together to make some artwork to represent the story.

Alan and the boys worked on the collage for the background, choosing a variety of patterns all based around the theme. Meanwhile the girls and Elizabeth coloured in the main images and started to make some leaf prints. Elizabeth loves colouring so was very excited to be able to spend a whole afternoon doing one of her favourite things with her young friends. Alan hadn’t made any collages since he was in a veterans care home but because he had some experience he could explain to the boys the best techniques.

Last week they made a bank of words that could be used to describe the wind, today these words were printed using blocks, onto long strips of paper. These strips were then curled and will eventually form the hair of the North Wind as she blows. A very busy, happy afternoon spent in lovely company.
