This week has been poetry week across school. It is a week where children get to enjoy listening to poems from different poets; performing extracts from published poems; and, then writing their own poems to share.
The poems are linked to the topics across school, meaning that the children have a wealth of knowledge and rich vocabulary that they are able to use to bring their poems to life. It has been lovely to hear children talking about their ideas for war poems, poems about rivers, dinosaur poems and poems based upon Egyptian characters. It is also an opportunity for children to stand in front of an audience and to read their work – after all, most poems are meant to be performed and listened to rather than just be written on paper and read.
