Hockey

This half term, the children in Year 3 are learning how to play hockey.  They started by being introduced to some of the main skills – dribbling, passing and stopping the ball. The boys and girls learned how to hold the stick correctly and understand that they can only use the flat side. They started by pushing the ball around with their stick and then moved onto tapping it gently, increasing their speed as their confidence grew. They then worked in partners to pass the ball back and forth, getting low with their stick to stop the ball when it came to them. To prepare them for a game situation, they then moved around when passing the ball, using scanning to locate their partner. They are looking forward to applying their new skills within a match.
