A Week in Forest School

Even the ipad struggled in the low temperatures and cold finger tips makes taking photos tricky, but here is a round up of this weeks adventures in our Forest School.

Year 3 created Blobsters. In class they listened to a traditional tale of how Mother Nature created our planet, she pushed her hands deep into the Earth and moulded the clay and soil into creatures, she breathed life into them so they could to populate the world and protect the nature that grew around them.

Meanwhile some children have begun to prepare our Christmas decorations for the front of school. Every year they try new ideas so keep an eye out for this years creations. Don’t forget we would also love your real Christmas trees when you have finished with them. They are a fantastic resource for the children who can come up with endless uses for them.

The other Year groups played games to keep warm, Year 4’s played flip the tarp races and had some delicious hot caramalised fruit from the campfire. The younger children played the game You’re Only safe If…. This is a tag game which helps establish boundaries and observation and ultimately forms a template for bird, tree and plant recognition as the children grow.

Though there are no photos Year 6 embarked on their Barter Town challenge, this activity will run over the half term and links to their Peacemakers Topic. It is a very creative and independent block of work and is a fantastic way of developing problem solving, communication and negotiation skills.

The Long-Term Principle: Forest School is a long-term process of frequent and regular sessions in a woodland or natural environment, rather than a one-off visit. Planning, adaptation, observations and reviewing are integral elements of Forest School.
