Maths games form a key part of our curriculum in Mathematics and over the last couple of weeks, the children have enjoyed taking part in a number of games based tasks involving their number skills.
This term we have looked at systems in patterns – sorting, ordering, arranging and predicting using patterns in numbers, shapes, items and objects. The children had to come up with combinations of colours – but find a pattern or system that would allow them to speed up the process or predict the answer. They used this system to then generalise to other challenges to become more efficient.
They have also enjoyed card games with numbers and times tables and dice activities for counting – we recommend packs of cards at home for times tables, dart boards (velcro ones) for adding and subtracting and of course coins for counting and change – though we know fewer and fewer children are exposed to physical money now as people use digital methods of payment.
