This term in Computing, Year Two have been learning all about photography.
First, the children sorted devices into those which can take a photograph and those which cannot. They then shared their own experiences of taking photographs using different devices.
Next, the boys and girls learnt the steps needed to take a good quality photograph – hold the device steady, point it at the object and make sure the image is clear before capturing. They took photographs of different classroom objects and retook pictures to improve the quality. The children learnt about portrait and landscape orientations. They predicted which orientation would look the best when taking pictures of different classroom objects, before taking the photographs to find out whether they were correct.
After that, Year Two explored how lighting can affect the quality of a photograph. They used artificial and natural light to improve the clarity of their images. They identified which lighting worked best when taking pictures and explored the different effects that different types of lighting had on their photographs.
Finally, the children learnt about how photographs can be changed. They experimented with different coloured filters and explored how these affected the original photograph. They then looked at online images and had to decide whether they were real or fake. The children understood that it can be very difficult to identify a fake image as they are made to look realistic.
