For our Christmas RE focus, Year 5 have been looking at almsgiving.
Traditionally, almsgiving is usually linked with lent. However, in Year 5, we have learnt that almsgiving can be done anytime, as it simply means to help someone who is in need.
Firstly, the children thought about all the things they are grateful for in the lead up to Christmas, such as a warm home, a Christmas tree, presents and even a safe place to sleep. Then, using this, the children came up with ideas linked with almsgiving in the lead up to Christmas, such as donating old clothes, blankets and toys to charity, spending time with those who might feel lonely at Christmas, donating money to charities and also donating food to food banks.
In light of this, the children spent some time creating a poster highlighting all the different ways that almsgiving could be done in the lead up to Christmas.
