Head Teacher’s End of Term Message – Autumn 2024

A busy term has culminated in a very busy, but positive, couple of weeks.

This time is always a lovely period ion school as we have the pleasure of seeing children build towards the feeling of how special Christmas is, in a way only a child can experience.  The organisation of Christmas lunch, performances, parties, a live music concert, and a pantomime for Year 6, is a tight squeeze but worth all the challenges they bring.  However, these types of experiences are no different to how we work at any time of the year.

At Harlow Green, we believe that education is more than the curriculum we are required to deliver.  With an understanding of how we want to support families to shape our children to become strong, resilient, enthusiastic and kind individuals who want to challenge themselves and explore the world around them, we have continued to make our lives busier so that we can attempt to achieve this.

Over the term, we have many kind words and messages shared from parents and carers who have wanted to show their appreciation for what our staff team have provided.  Educational visits, whole school events, and extracurricular clubs have been plentiful and have supported our children to take advantage of new opportunities, challenge themselves and develop personally as well as academically.

A unique aspect to Harlow Green is the focus we have on providing sporting experiences for all.  Already this term, there has been 15 sporting competitions or events that have been attended.  Within all of these, children have been able to develop their understanding of what it means to be part of a team as well as develop the positive aspects required to win and lose with grace – of course it helps when we are mostly winning!  However, in each context children are returning to school with a sense or pride and achievement, heads held high and medals weighing them down.  For any of us that have been in that position as a child, that feeling is priceless!

As a staff team, we are purposeful in what we choose to do but we are understanding that all of our work is in partnership with families.  As a school, we have the children for a limited amount of time but within that we are aiming to build upon the fantastic day-to-day work parents and carers do for their children – ensuring they attend school regularly, providing boundaries so that children can be challenged but are safe, encouraging education and learning, providing everyday positive experiences, embedding healthy routines, establishing an understanding of respectfulness and kindness.  By home and school supporting each other in these aspects, our children thrive.

The busyness I have referred to will definitely be a theme for our community over the next two weeks as you all celebrate the festive holiday in your own special ways.  We hope that our work over the last two weeks has been a significant part of children’s Christmas experience in a way that brings them happiness and positivity ready for the joy they will feel next week.

As Head Teacher, I would like to thank all our families and my staff, for everything you all have done in working together in the best interests of the children we care for.  I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and look forward to our continued work in January.

Best wishes,

Mr M. Malik
