During our Design and Technology lessons, the boys and girls in Year 3 were given a brief of designing a Christmas decoration strong enough to hold an object. They began by learning about a tale from many years ago which some people believe started the tradition of hanging up stockings on Christmas Eve. The children then carefully designed their stockings and identified the materials they would need to complete their designs. To join the felt, the boys and girls learned how to use the running stitch. This took practise and perseverance. The children then used felt, sequins, pompoms and fabric pens to decorate their stockings with a Christmas image and everyone was really pleased with the end result. Finally, they tested their stockings to see if they had met the brief – could it hold 2 chocolate coins?
