Big Schools Birdwatching

This week in Nursery we started our new topic for the Spring term, Rhyme Time. We will be covering lots of mini topics which have a link to nursery rhymes. This week we learned all about birds and have started to take part in the RSPB Big Schools Birdwatch.

We started the week talking about different birds that we know and named them with our friends. We know that with it being so cold outside, the birds find it hard to get any worms from the ground as the ice makes this solid. We decided to make them some bird feeders to hang in the Nursery garden. We used toilet roll tubes, lard and bird seed to create these. We also, through our fine motor threading, made some cheerio’s feeders using cereal and pipe cleaners. We then spent time, on Friday afternoon, hanging these on the trees so that the birds could visit over the weekend and had some food to eat.

We also went on a bird watch outside to see what different birds visit Harlow Green. We used toilet roll tubes again to make binoculars to help us look at and focus on the birds. We used a special tool this week called a stapler to hold the tubes together, before painting r colouring them in.
