Reception have enjoyed the winter weather this week. We have taken advantage of the cold weather by exploring the outdoor area. We did a winter walk around the school grounds, into the forest area, across the frosty grass and over to the pond. The children were astonished to find that the pond was completely frozen over. We discussed ways to stay safe in winter, especially near bodies of water. The children were fascinated to find pieces of ice around the playground, so we decided to make ice pictures by finding natural materials in the forest area. The children arranged their leaves, sticks and flowers on the tray before taking them outside to cover in water. The next day, the children discovered that the water has frozen into ice. We hung the ice pictures to decorate the bare trees.
