In History, Year 3 have been learning about life through the ages. First, they were introduced to the term ‘prehistory’ meaning the period of time before written records. They then began by exploring the Stone Age. Initially, the children became archaeologists and using images, discussed a range of artefacts; making predictions about what they were, what they would have been used for and what they were made from. Next, the boys and girls learned about life during the Stone Age and wrote a diary entry imagining they were a child during this time who would hunt for food and make tools using flint. After this, the boys and girls learned about how life changed during the Stone Age, Bronze Age and the Iron Age because of developments in farming, trade and materials.
Finally, the children ended our History unit by taking part in a Stone Age workshop. The boys and girls used a piece of string to visualise how long ago the Stone Age was. Throughout the workshop, they played a Stone Age version of snakes and ladders, based on hunting and gathering food. The children also used natural pigment to create their own cave drawings and handled Stone Age artefacts.
