On Tuesday, Year 5 took part in World Religion Day.
Across the day, the children in Year 5 learnt about Sikhism. We started our day looking at the Ten Guru’s of Sikhism, focusing more closely on Guru Nanak. The children learnt about the story of Guru Nanak and the Boulder. This story teaches an important lesson about selfishness and pride and how these attitudes can be challenged. After listening to the story, the children completed a storyboard retelling the story.
Then, the children learnt about the important Sikh celebration of Vaisakhi, which celebrates the founding of Sikhism. The children learnt about how Sikh’s celebrate this with parades, praying and feasting with family and friends.
During the afternoon, Year 5 were treated to a dance workshop focusing on traditional dance, which the children thoroughly enjoyed.
